Introduction

Welcome to my personal study/gaming project called "She&D: Dungeonesses" in which I will be introducing a group of female players of varying levels of experience (mostly zero) to the world of 5th Edition D&D.

The purpose of this project is both to teach myself new lessons as a GM of some 15 years, and to learn more about how people learn to play the game, why they start playing, and how they play the game once they learn. I've had plenty of experiences playing with both men and women gamers, though it would be a lie to say the numbers are even 10 to 1, so I felt to really get a view into the mind of the female gamer I would create a group of them entirely.

Some of the reason I went this way are as follows:
  • Having a group of all females will give me a 100% control group view of how they will approach gaming
  • Easing new lady gamers into the awkward realm of learning a new complicated game and "role playing" a character as a different personality would be perhaps slightly easier if it was mostly equal across the board
  •  I hope to get to see how a group of all female gamers face challenges, solve problems, and unlock story in different fashions than the countless all male groups I've been involved with in the past.
  • These ladies are awesome, clever, and each one of a kind, and being a part of their learning experience will mean a lot to me.
Each player was given a short survey to fill out as an introduction to gameplay, then I sat down with each of them, one on one, and we built there characters from the ground up.
